Dinner for 6 at Squires Loft on a casual Tuesday night which according to my mate, was the best steakhouse in Melbourne.
First impressions, it was a neat, modest restaurant near the corner of Chapel st and Toorak Rd. I had walked past this strip opposite South Yarra train station many times but had never noticed this restaurant.
We weren’t greeted upon arrival despite being noticed by 3 different wait staff, however we were eventually seated upstairs, my mate Stephen had made a booking in advance. The restaurant was about half full at 7.30pm.
We ordered two plates of pork ribs to share among 6 for entrée. Picture below:
They were absolutely scrumptious. The pork was so tender and the squire sauce was mouth-watering. The sauce had a BBQ type taste. We ended up ordering more bread to soak up the remaining sauce on the plate. Very appealing isn’t it?
I ordered my favorite type of steak, eye fillet with the black pepper sauce and a baked potato. Picture below:
Our table also ordered the Fired Onion and Char-Grilled Vegetables on the side. Pictures below:
There wasn’t much talking during the mains; everybody was busy eating their delectable meals. My steak was juicy and cooked to perfection. I didn’t enjoy the Black Pepper sauce very much, it was a bit on the sour side. I pinched some of my friend’s BBQ sauce, it was much more to my liking. The Char-Grilled veggies were very tasty and delicious. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Fried Onion but it was very popular among the others on the table.
The kitchen was in open view, my mate Stephen who is a fellow chef commented on how clean and in good condition it was.
There is a smoking outdoor area on the ground floor out the back.
Overall, this place serves some VERY fine Steak. I will be back!
