The Swan Hotel

The Swan Hotel on Urbanspoon

I always feel a little funny writing food reviews about pubs, but I thought I would include this one anyway.

It was the Queen’s Birthday weekend and I was really looking forward to a nice meal at Richmond Oysters but unfortunately they were closed. So off to the nearby pub we went.

The Swan Hotel offers half-price meals on the bar menu every Monday (excluding the steak, salmon, barramundi and sides). They even had the offer today – on a public holiday.

I don’t normally order Asian dishes at pubs or rice dishes at noodle places (it just seems silly to me), but today I ordered the nasi goreng.

Nasi Goreng – Indonesian fried rice with chicken, egg, vegetables, sweet soy & chilli $17

Tim ordered the porterhouse steak.

Porterhouse steak with herb butter, chips & rocket and parmesan salad $24

My nasi goreng was quite nice. I finished all of it. Tim wasn’t very impressed with his steak though. Nasi goreng reminds me of the Telstra ad ‘to keep the rabbits out’ every time. Haha.

The Swan is not really a gastro pub, but in a sense, our expectations were met.

There was no table service: we had to go up to the counter to order our meals and the girl with an American accent who served us was very friendly and nice.
