The Moat on Urbanspoon

The Moat is discretely tucked away in The Wheeler Centre, downstairs between a relatively quiet area between Swanston st and Russell St. There is a cute little outdoor area which you walk through before entering the restaurant. Inside the restaurant is beautifully decorated, with an open kitchen and bar for the curious diner to peer into and gives an overall sophisticated, elegant yet homely comfortable feel.

If you follow the Melbourne food scene, you would of heard of The Moat in form or the other. It has been showcased on Postcards, written up in a million different publications and popularly talked about online.

Moondarra Wagyu bresaola, goat cheese custard, beetroot cured watermelon and olive dust $21

Delicious! Beetroot cured watermelon, how creative! The Moondarra Wagyu bresola was devine! Tastes a little bit like prosciutto…? But much better, less salty, more tender and tasty.

Mount Keira cured lamb with chickpea purée, lemon cheek, olive and rosemary bread $17

Canadian scallop kebab wrapped in pancetta, apple dressing with black fermented garlic $16 & Potted prawns with butter, shaved fennel, lemon zest and spices $15

Warm roasted beetroot, Ems marinated yoghurt cheese, bee pollen and seeded honey mustard dressing $20

Braised lamb, roasted garlic labna, quinoa salad and flat bread $30

I don’t even need to write much about the dishes, I think the pictures speak for themselves. The dishes look absolutely stunning and tastes even better! My favourite…. it’s hard to choose but I would have to say the prawns and scallops. They are dripping in delicious flavour. All the ingredients are exquisite and fresh, the dishes are creative and I feel like the chefs have poured their heart into the food here.

Service was equally as friendly and amicable.

The Moat sure did impress.
