Byron Fresh

Byron Fresh on Urbanspoon

Fresh Cafe is in an ideal located by the beach in Byron Bay. We were just walking by and decided to settle here as it looked nice.

We ordered coffees to start, me – a regular flat white. While my two friends Laura and Nick ordered larges.

I was shocked when it was brought out to see how tiny it was. Nick and Laura’s large were the regular sizes I was familiar with in Melbourne. Anyway, the coffee was nice. I vaguely remember reading somewhere on the menu that the beans were from Melbourne.

I ordered the big breakkie: two free range eggs poached, scrambled or fried, bacon, chorizo sausage, sautéed mushrooms, hash browns, roasted organic tomato, homemade beans + thick organic sourdough $24.65. (The website says $22, the menu said $25 but my receipt definitely says $24.65)

Our three meals came up in under 5 minutes! It was amazingly fast.

My breakfast looked amazing! I dug into my meal and soon realised why it was so quick. The eggs were cold and so were some of the other bits of food, I can’t remember which one. I was really disappointed with it. Everyone else commented on how cold and terrible the food was as well.

When the bill came, it was a bit of a shock! I was sneakily trying to pay our bill because it was my friend Laura’s birthday. I walked up to the register with $100 which I thought would be more than enough but it turned out to be more than $100. I handed over $105 and settled the bill leaving a small tip.

I left by ordering an OJ that I later drank on the beach – it was nice!

However from the receipt, it shows the total as $93.65. GST? Can’t work it out. Oh well.

I probably wouldn’t recommend this place just based on my cold eggs experience, however perhaps we were just unlucky and it was a once off….
