Hotel 520

Hotel 520 on Urbanspoon

I’m shocked to read all the dismal reviews on Urbanspoon! I had enjoyed one of my best pub dining experiences at Hotel 520 tonight.

I live in the inner city, so it’s rare that I get a chance to come out and dine at a suburban pub. It was quite exciting! There seemed to be ample parking out front, which is crucial as I don’t think this place is very easy to get to on public transport.

The restaurant area of the pub is beautiful. There is a pokies area on the other side.

We started with a light Mediterranean dips which surprisingly came with tomato and cheese too, what a bonus! As well as the calamari.

trio of Greek dips (GF/DF/V) crisp oregano pita breads $12

Salt and Pepper Calamari (GF/DF): mango chilli aioli, asian herb salad $16

Both entrees were divine! Calamari was tender and crumbed nicely. The Asian herb salad was tasty and there was a generous serving of pita bread for the tips.

I decided to order the fish below for my main:

Pan Fried Barramundi - warm italian potato salad, sautéed spinach, sicilian salsa vinaigrette $29

Barramundi is my favourite fish, therefore whenever I see it on the menu, I jump at the chance to order it. It was delicious, melted in my mouth! The crispy skin bit at the top was a little hard to consume because I currently have 3 big dirty ulcers in my mouth! (Don’t know why ?!?! I eat plenty of fruit and fresh vegies) The Italian potato salad was very unique and tasted great! It’s shocking that a pub would introduce me to a new taste and type of food, but a delightful pleasure. I can honestly say, one of the best fish dishes I have ever had.

My friend Eva ordered the more traditional pub dish below:

Chicken Parmigiana: mozzarella cheese, crispy pancetta, house made napoli sauce $24

She said she enjoyed her parama very much.

Service was friendly and helpful. There were a couple of TV screens around the dining area, we watched the cricket while enjoying our meals.

Highly recommended!
